What is a sinus lift?

A sinus lift is a type of bone graft for the upper jaw. It is used when the upper jaw isn’t deep enough to support dental implants. We will raise the floor of the sinuses and insert bone material in the space so that new bone will grow there. In a few months, there will be sufficient bone to support your implants and replacement teeth.

Are sinus lifts painful?

As with other oral surgery procedures, we’ll numb your mouth with local anesthesia. You can also choose to receive dental sedation. Following the procedure, you may experience some bleeding and/or swelling. Most patients experience mild discomfort only and for no more than a few days. We’ll provide you with an antibiotic to prevent infection and can also suggest medication to relieve pain.

When are sinus lifts necessary?

Additionally, the sinus membrane is often in the way of implants. A sinus lift moves the sinuses up and makes room for added bone material that will help strengthen the jawbone.
